Your details, in plain English

Who I am

I'm Steven, a sole trader working as Job Done Websites. I decide how the details you send me are used, so I'm responsible for looking after them. If you've got a question about anything on this page, email steven@jobdonewebsites.co.uk or ring 07523 015665.

What I collect

  • From the contact form: your name, phone number and message, plus your email, business and town if you fill them in.
  • By email or phone: whatever you tell me.
  • If you become a customer: what I need to do the job and invoice you, such as your business details and access to accounts like your Google Business Profile.
  • When you visit the site: like any website, the server sees your IP address and browser details. If you accept cookies, Google Analytics also records which pages you look at (see below).

I don't buy contact lists and I don't collect anything about you from other places.

What I use it for, and why I'm allowed to

  • Replying to you and quoting. You've asked me to get in touch, so this is a step before a possible contract.
  • Doing the work and invoicing. This is needed for our contract.
  • Keeping business records. HMRC requires me to.
  • Keeping the form free of spam and the site secure. This is my legitimate interest in running a working website.
  • Counting visits with Google Analytics. Only with your consent.

I won't add you to a mailing list, and I never sell your details or pass them to anyone to market to you.

Who else handles it

I do the work myself, but a few companies handle data for me:

  • Cloudflare hosts this website, runs the spam check on the contact form (Cloudflare Turnstile), and passes form messages and emails on to my inbox.
  • Google provides my email inbox (Gmail), so that's where your messages end up.
  • Google also provides Google Analytics, only if you accept cookies.

Cloudflare and Google may handle data outside the UK, including in the United States. Both cover this with the protections UK law requires, such as the UK–US data bridge and approved contract terms.

Cookies

When you first visit, a banner asks whether I can use Google Analytics. Nothing is sent to Google until you answer.

If you click Accept, Google Analytics sets cookies whose names start with _ga. They last up to 2 years and let me see how many people visit and which pages they use. It isn't used for advertising.

If you click Reject, no analytics cookies are set. Either way, your answer is saved in your browser (as jdw-consent) so you're not asked on every page.

You can change your mind any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. If you switch from Accept to Reject, the Google Analytics cookies are deleted.

Cloudflare Web Analytics also counts visits. It doesn't use cookies and doesn't identify you.

How long I keep it

  • Enquiries that don't turn into work: deleted after 12 months.
  • Customers: 6 years after your last invoice, because HMRC needs me to keep business records that long.
  • Google Analytics data: deleted by Google after 14 months.

Your rights

You can ask me to:

  • give you a copy of the details I hold about you;
  • correct anything that's wrong;
  • delete your details, or stop using them;
  • send your details to you or someone else in a usable format.

You can also object to how I use your details, and withdraw your consent to cookies at any time. Just email me. It's free, and I'll reply within a month.

If you're not happy with how I've handled your details, please tell me first so I can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes

If I change how I use your details, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
